Are the SNP protecting Scotland’s marine environment?
The SNP understand the need to take decisive action to conserve our precious and valuable marine environment and biodiversity. Failure to protect coastal areas would result in permanent damage to habitats and the fish stocks they support.
The SNP Government has designated over 30 Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) designed to improve marine conservation, including protecting kelp and rocky reefs to reduce coastal erosion, and seagrass beds which capture and store carbon and provide nursery habitats.
These measures will help conserve Scotland’s vital marine environment and protect important seabed features for future generations.
