Dè na ceumannan a tha Riaghaltas na h-Alba air gabhail airson taic a thoirt don Ghàidhlig ann an Alba?

Tha a’ Ghàidhlig na pàirt luachmhor de dhualchas na h-Alba agus tha an SNP ag aithneachadh an luach cultarach, eaconamaiceach agus sòisealta a tha an dùthaich gu lèir a’ faighinn bhon chànan.  Tha sinn airson cleachdadh a’ chànain a neartachadh gus dèanamh cinnteach gum bi i maireannach san àm ri teachd.

Dhearbh rannsachadh a rinn Iomairt na Gàidhealtachd is nan Eilean ann an 2014 gu bheil cleachdadh na Gàidhlig ann an gnìomhachasan agus companaidhean a’ cur co-dhiù £148.5m ris an eaconamaidh gach bliadhna –  ach tha ar dualchas prìseil agus luachmhor ann an iomadach dòigh a bharrachd air na h-adhbharan eaconamaiceach.

Tha an t-seanail Ghàidhlig BBC ALBA a’ faighinn £12.8m gach bliadhna bho Riaghaltas na h-Alba tro mhaoineachadh airson MG ALBA – a’ ruigsinn 15% de luchd-amharc na h-Alba agus 70% de luchd-bruidhinn na Gàidhlig gach seachdain agus aig a’ cheart àm a’ brosnachadh, a’ dìon, agus ag ùrachadh misneachd dhaoine anns a’ chanan agus a’ chultar againn. Iarraidh sinn air Riaghaltas na Rìoghachd Aonaichte am maoin airson craoladh Gàidhlig, air an do chuir iad stad, ath-thòiseachadh a-rithist.

Obraichidh Riaghaltas an SNP gu dlùth le Bòrd na Gàidhlig gus dèanamh cinnteach gum bi prìomhachasan freagarrach agus cothromach san ath Phlana Nàiseanta na Gàidhlig gus adhartas a dhèanamh le Gàidhlig ann an Alba.

Ann a bhith a’ toirt taic-airgid do dh’ fhoghlam tro Mheadhan na Gàidhlig tha sinn a’ brosnachadh agus a’ cuideachadh barrachd clann a bhith a’ togail na Gàidhlig agus a’ lùghdachadh a’ chrìonadh san àireamh de luchd-labhairt na Gàidhlig. Bhon a chaidh am Maoin Calpa do Sgoiltean Gàidhlig a steidheachadh ann an 2008, tha an àireamh de dhaoine òga ann am Foghlam Tro Mheadhan na Gàidhlig air a dhol am meud 32% gu nàiseanta.

San Dàmhair 2016, dh’fhoillsich Iar-phrìomh-mhinistear agus Rùnaire a’ Chaibineit airson Foghlam agus Sgilean Iain Swinney maoin airson goireasan an dà sgoil Ghàidhlig ann an Glaschu a leasachadh.  Thèid an £700,000 a bharrachd gu Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghleann Dail agus Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu airson leasachadh a thoirt air na goireasan ionnsachaidh a th’aig na daoine òga a tha a’ dèanamh na prìomh chuspairean mar Foghlam Corporra, STEM agus ICT sa Ghàidhlig – a’ dèanamh cinnteach gu bheil sgoilearan òga na Gàidhlig air am bogadh sa chànan tarsainn a’ churraicealam.

What steps have the Scottish Government taken to support the Gaelic language in Scotland?

Gaelic is an integral part of Scotland’s heritage and the SNP recognises the strong cultural, economic and social value the language brings to our entire nation. We remain committed to increasing the use and visibility of the language to ensure its sustainable long-term future.

Research by HIE in 2014 found that the use of Gaelic by businesses and organisations can generate up to £148.5m a year for the economy – supporting our heritage is about a lot more than that.

The Gaelic language channel BBC ALBA receives £12.8 million a year from the Scottish Government through its funding of MG ALBA – entertaining 15 per cent of all Scottish viewers and 70 per cent of Gaelic speakers each week while simultaneously promoting, preserving and renewing confidence in our language and our culture.

The SNP Government will work closely with Bòrd na Gàidhlig to ensure the next National Gaelic Language Plan contains the right priorities in order to make further progress with Gaelic in Scotland.

Our support for Gaelic Medium Education is encouraging and enabling more children to learn the language and has helped to slow the decline in our population of Gaelic speakers. Since the introduction of the Gaelic Schools Capital Fund in 2008, the number of young people in Gaelic Medium Education has increased nationally by 32 per cent.

In October 2016 Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills John Swinney announced funding to improve facilities at Glasgow’s two Gaelic schools. Glendale Gaelic School and Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu will use the extra £700,000 to further improve the learning environment for young people studying core subjects such as physical education, STEM and ICT, ensuring Gaelic learning provides a fully immersive experience across the curriculum.
