How are the SNP devolving powers to local communities?

We believe the best people to decide the future of our communities are the people who live in those communities. We’ll consult on and introduce new legislation to decentralise local authority functions, budgets and democratic oversight to local communities. We will also give people much more control over how public money is spent in their area by setting councils a target of having at least 1 per cent of their budget subject to participatory budgeting.

For our island communities we will bring forward an Islands Bill to give our island communities more power and voice to directly impact decisions about their communities future. We will also use new powers to ensure our island communities are able to control and determine how to invest 100 per cent of locally raised Crown Estate revenues.
