How does the EU offer opportunities for students in Scotland?

The ability to move freely through the EU has given Scots the opportunity to travel abroad to work and learn alongside their neighbours. This in turn has raised the profile of Scotland as a place to live, work and study in key overseas markets and has allowed us to showcase the best of our world famous Scottish higher education.

Through the Erasmus+ programme for 2014-2020, Scots are benefitting from more than 150 EU-funded projects totalling almost £10 million to boost skills and employability and provide opportunities to study, train, gain work experience and volunteer abroad.

A 2016 Erasmus Impact Study, published by the European Commission, indicated that 98 per cent of UK employers seek candidates who demonstrate confidence, curiosity and a range of other qualities developed by study and traineeships abroad. The report concluded that employment rates are positively affected by mobility which fosters an entrepreneurial spirit.
