How is the SNP improving bus services?
The SNP Scottish Government have invested nearly a quarter of a billion pounds every year in support of bus services, concessionary travel and more incentives for the take up of cleaner, greener vehicles.
We are investing over £200 million in 2018-19 into the The National Concessionary Travel Scheme which provides free bus travel for elderly and eligible disabled people who live in Scotland.
We are also aware of the particular challenges facing younger people and the Scottish Government recently consulted on proposals for free bus travel for young Modern Apprentices.
Additionally, we will introduce a Transport Bill to empower local authorities by providing flexible options to improve bus services in their area, such as giving local authorities the power to run publicly-owned bus franchises – as already exists in Edinburgh.
