What do the SNP propose as an alternative to austerity?
SNP MPs will demand an end to austerity. We have a responsible plan that would balance the current budget by 2021-22, stabilise borrowing and see debt falling by 2019-20, while also freeing up additional resources to bring an end to austerity. This will allow us to support a halt to further social security cuts, an end to the freeze on working age benefits, increased investment in public services and protection for family budgets.
Our plan would release £118 billion for public spending over the next Parliament, while returning the UK’s finances to a stable, sustainable path. This would allow the UK government to increase investment in the NHS in far beyond their current plans.
