What is the named person?

The named person is a single professional point of contact for all children and their families, but also for other professionals. It is in no way an attempt to take over any aspect of the role of the child’s parent or carer and nothing in the legislation changes parental rights and responsibilities. We know that mothers and fathers are, with a very few exceptions, the best people to raise their children.
