The SNP is set to deliver 250 km of new roads

By Spring next year 250 km of new roads will have been delivered by the SNP Scottish Government over 10 years – the result of £2.81 billion of investment.

Here’s how we’ll take a step closer to that milestone this month.

Scotland’s largest infrastructure project in a generation, the Queensferry Crossing, opened on 30 August.

Over 15,000 people have worked on the Queensferry Crossing, which has been delivered for £245 million below budget.

We’ve connected Glasgow to Edinburgh with continuous motorway for the first time – cutting peak journey times by 20 minutes.

The first section of the M8 opened in 1964 but earlier this month the final section was opened – linking Glasgow to Edinburgh by motorway for the first time.

The first section of our £3 billion project to dual the A9 from Perth to Inverness has been completed.  

The SNP government has the first to commit to dualling the A9 from Perth to Inverness, to improve safety and save lives. This month Economy Secretary Keith Brown inspected the first section of dual-carriageway completed.

The Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR) project is expected to be completed in winter 2017-18.

The AWPR/Balmedie to Tipperty project is the largest road construction project currently underway in the UK. As well as cutting journey times, over 30 years the project is expected to bring in an extra £6 billion for the North East economy and create around 14,000 jobs.

…and we’re committed to delivering many other projects too.

Work to dual the A96 between Inverness and Aberdeen is also in preparation. In the South of Scotland we’re taking forward the construction of the Maybole bypass on the A77, making further improvements to the A75 and exploring how to better connect Dumfries and the M74.
