Gillian Martin was brought up in Newburgh, Aberdeenshire and now lives in Newmachar on the other side of the Aberdeenshire constituency with her family.
She is a graduate of the University of Glasgow and has worked as a lecturer in further education for 15 years and in tandem has run her own business in video production and training for the energy sector for over 20 years.
She was the manager of an emergency media response team for oil and gas companies for 10 years.
She is the founder of the Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire branches of Women for Independence and is now the executive committee member for the North East region for the organisation.
